Permanent residents

Permanent residents are individuals who have been given the right to move to Canada and settle permanently. They are not Canadian citizens, but rather they are citizens of other countries. This course focuses on populations that fall within this category. This group includes economic class immigrants, family class immigrants and refugees who are resettled from overseas.

After residing in Canada for three of their last five years, permanent residents can apply for Canadian citizenship (Government of Canada, 2017d).
