Module 6 focused on the basic counselling and case-management skills necessary for facilitating daily encounters with immigrant and refugee clients. The module reviewed counselling skills, the principles of trauma-informed care and how to deal with crisis situations and clients in distress. The module also explored basic case-management priorities and requirements.
With an awareness of how to effectively support clients in collaborative working relationships, service providers should also consider how to effectively work with different populations, which means reflecting on one's work and examining one's power and privilege in the relationship. This is the subject of the next module.
