Module 2 introduction

Module 2 develops your knowledge of mental health problems and illnesses in Canada. It examines the most common mental disorders experienced by immigrants and refugees. It also explores the prevalence and effects of mental health problems and illnesses on immigrants and refugees.

The module outlines the main symptoms for the six most common mental disorders and the similarities and differences in prevalence among key groups within the immigrant and refugee population. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth and fifth editions (DSM-4 and DSM-5) are used to consider best practices and tools for assessing disorders.
